In March 2025 BFWSS was invited to apply for project funding for work contributing to the Kettle River Watershed Management. The funding was to come from the Boundary Integrated Water Service (BIWS) a service of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) to the Boundary Area.
BFWSS consulted with a biologist employed by the Okanagan Nation Alliance working in the Region who in turn consulted with a workmate hydrologist. BFWSS was subsequently invited to apply for a water measurement and sampling project for the Kettle and Granby Rivers at three sites.
In May BFWSS was advised by RDKB staff that our Project Application had been approved. BFWSS then moved forward with purchasing the required equipment and soliciting project staff. Grand Forks Wildlife Association expressed interest and contributed one staff member. Two retired Forest Service employees have also volunteered to help alongside BFWSS members. We understand the data recovered from our project will be valuable in a larger study of the watershed.
BFWSS is happy to participate in gathering what could be baseline data for any work that contributes to the health of the watershed. Ray Hanson from our Board of Directors is overseeing the project.
