Hopefully some of you will be aware of earth day today and reflect on what the earth has to offer us and how we might contribute positively to it in some small way. I’ve been thinking a bit about it as the day has been approaching.
The earth is our environment and home. It has so much beauty and diversity. We are blessed to be part of it.
I lament over how we treat it. But I know in my ignorance and selfishness I am also part of the problem. I think about how we have driven close to extinction many things like buffalo, sea otters, cod fish, and are continuing with sharks, mountain caribou, iconic African animals, herring, salmon and orcas.
Ironically, COVID19 is giving the earth a break. Could we imagine and hope that our new normal will embody more concern for how we treat the earth? As an old hiking- camping group leader used to drill into us, leave the place cleaner than you found it.
