We’re Building a BC Forest Reform Strike Team – Want In?
We;re looking for a few skilled people – real-world capable humans – who can donate a few hours a week to help turn the New Forest Act campaign into a political force.
This isn’t a Facebook group or an activist meetup. It’s a serious push to change BC’s forest laws. We’ve got momentum, MLA meetings, and a powerful proposal. What’s missing is capacity.
If you’re strategic, reliable, and can execute without needing hand-holding – reach out. Especially if you know comms, organizing, politics, campaigning, outreach, websites, or digital tools.
Time commitment: 2–5 hours/week
Zero pay (for now), but high-impact, no-BS work with a tight crew.
We don’t need dreamers. we need people who can do things.
BC Forest Reform Strike Team – Orientation Document
MISSION:
Fix the broken forest system in British Columbia by helping implement the New Forest Act. This is a legislative campaign, not a protest movement. We are here to replace outdated, industry-captured laws with modern public-interest legislation.
WHO WE ARE:
A tactical, tight-knit crew of skilled operatives working in a focused window (Aug–Dec 2025) to build capacity, expand reach, and win support for the New Forest Act campaign. This is not a volunteer drop-in group. We don’t have time for that.
WHO YOU ARE:
You are competent, sharp, and reliable. You’ve done real-world work before – maybe in organizing, campaigns, tech, comms, writing, social media, design, or ops – and you’re ready to contribute immediately. You care about forests, public policy, and political outcomes.
You don’t need to be managed every five minutes. You know how to:
- Handle tasks start to finish
- Take initiative within clear boundaries
WHAT YOU’RE JOINING:
This Strike Team is led by Jennifer Houghton, Project Manager and co-author of the New Forest Act proposal. She governs the direction of the campaign on behalf of the BFWSS Board of Directors. Your role is to help execute key components of that direction.
TEAM STRUCTURE:
- Commander (Project Manager): Jennifer
- Operatives: 3–6 core contributors in distinct roles
- Mission Window: Aug–Dec 2025 (initial, then Jan-May 2026)
OPERATING PRINCIPLES:
- We move fast, speak clearly, and follow through
- We don’t waste time on drama or indecision
- We serve the mission, not our egos
- We give honest updates (no ghosting)
- We act like professionals – even if unpaid
TIME COMMITMENT:
2–5 hours per week, remote, with periodic check-ins
ROLES NEEDED:
- Comms Operative (email/social/media writing)
- Outreach Operative (MLA meetings, scheduling, follow-up)
- Social Media / Video Op (reels, clips, repurposing)
- Ops / Admin Support (trackers, docs, systems)
- Strategic Advisor / Planner
- Policy & Strategy Lead – someone with legislative/lobbying chops
- Campaign Planner – help map the steps
- Senior Advisor
- Legislative Advisor – knows how to work the government/policy angle
- Movement Strategist – experience in organizing
APPLICATION PROCESS:
1. Send an email to [email protected] with subject: “I’m In for Forest Reform”
2. Include:
- What skills you bring
- What you’re confident doing without much guidance
- Why you care about this mission
If it’s a potential fit, we’ll have a screening call.
YOU GET:
- Real impact on a real campaign
- High-level collaboration
- No fluff, no bureaucracy, no spin
- Leadership that respects your time and clarity
YOU DON’T GET (YET):
- Money
- Endless meetings
- Chaos
- Babysitting
If you’re tired of sitting on the sidelines while the forests burn, flood, and get sold off-step up. We need you sharp, ready, and committed. Let’s get to work.
