BFWSS is happy to announce that we have a new Board Member. Marcus Peters was appointed to the board on February 10, 2025. Welcome, Marcus!
Marcus Peters
Hailing from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Marcus is a co-operative developer, labor organizer, and activist who spends half the year working in BC’s tree planting industry, and the other half working and studying in Montreal, Quebec. Marcus is the chair of New Roots Worker Co-operative, BC’s only worker co-operative tree planting company, where he has worked for the past 7 years. Having been drawn to activism through the environmental movement, his work in silviculture gave him a first-hand perspective on the unsustainable conventions of the forestry industry, the impact it has on local communities, and how the legacy of colonial extraction continuously adapts to undermine indigenous sovereignty. He joined the BFWSS in hopes to build solidarity between grounded community advocates and the sympathetic, if transient, silvicultural workforce.
